South Africa
This small country was once dominated by the co-operative wine companies, taking all grape production what ever the quality, giving this region a very bad name for quite some time. However, things have most definitely changed, with entrepreneurial wine makers from all parts of the world taking advantage of the diverse climate and pioneering spirit, although the influence of the European ideology is still very evident.
Chenin Blanc and Pinotage are the grapes that thrive in this climate of Atlantic winds and dry inland winds. Pinotage an experiment to cross Cinsault and Pinot Noir, producing a grape that makes deep, rich, spicy reds that when done properly like the Ruins Organic Pinotage will blow you away.
